A quick update
Saturday, January 31st, 2009I left work early on Friday to get a head start on the weekend. The plan was to pick up my sister-inlaw straight after work then we’d meet my sister for dinner and a movie. Things were going swimmingly until I was about five minutes from the sister-inlaw’s house; I went to change gears in the Golf when the clutch pedal fell away from under my foot. Uh-oh! Stuck in neutral, I coasted into a side street and pulled over. A quick inspection revealed that the pedal was most definitely stuck hard against the floor and wasn’t going to let me drive any further. I phoned the husband who had just arrived home, and he said it sounded dire and that I should call the NRMA. They sent a tow-truck with a tilt tray and I called the girls to make alternative arrangements.
The tow-truck arrived and the car was easily loaded onto the back but just as the tray returned to the horizontal position, the air-thingy broke. After a little poking about, the driver declared that my car was now stuck on his truck but he would try to locate another truck of comparable height to meet us at the drop off point (home), and they would roll my car from the first truck to the second, then lower that tray and set the car back on terra firma.
To cut to the chase, the driver’s plan went to umm… plan. A new designated driver was appointed, we went to a local Italian restaurant for dinner then caught a later session at a different cinema. And good time was had by all.
And the best part? I got home around 11.30pm and was greeted by the husband who cheerfully announced that he had fixed the car. It turns out that a bracket behind the clutch pedal had failed and he just needed to weld it back together. Awesome! :)
