About
I’m just like every modern woman trying to have it all. A loving husband, a family. I only wish I had more time to seek out the dark forces and join their hellish crusade… [More]

A quick update

Saturday, January 31st, 2009

I left work early on Friday to get a head start on the weekend. The plan was to pick up my sister-inlaw straight after work then we’d meet my sister for dinner and a movie. Things were going swimmingly until I was about five minutes from the sister-inlaw’s house; I went to change gears in the Golf when the clutch pedal fell away from under my foot. Uh-oh! Stuck in neutral, I coasted into a side street and pulled over. A quick inspection revealed that the pedal was most definitely stuck hard against the floor and wasn’t going to let me drive any further. I phoned the husband who had just arrived home, and he said it sounded dire and that I should call the NRMA. They sent a tow-truck with a tilt tray and I called the girls to make alternative arrangements.

The tow-truck arrived and the car was easily loaded onto the back but just as the tray returned to the horizontal position, the air-thingy broke. After a little poking about, the driver declared that my car was now stuck on his truck but he would try to locate another truck of comparable height to meet us at the drop off point (home), and they would roll my car from the first truck to the second, then lower that tray and set the car back on terra firma.

To cut to the chase, the driver’s plan went to umm… plan. A new designated driver was appointed, we went to a local Italian restaurant for dinner then caught a later session at a different cinema. And good time was had by all.

And the best part? I got home around 11.30pm and was greeted by the husband who cheerfully announced that he had fixed the car. It turns out that a bracket behind the clutch pedal had failed and he just needed to weld it back together. Awesome! :)

Is this thing on?

I’ve been so busy this last week therefore neglecting my blog. The woman I’d been driven fucking insane by working with finished up before Christmas (good riddance) and the temp couldn’t start until early February which means I’ll be flying solo until then. We interviewed for my new assistant on Thursday and culled sixty applicants down to two potentials. If the first doesn’t work out then the second will automatically get the job. Either way, I’m happy. Now to replace the colleague that left…

I’ve also been feeling very emotional mostly because another woman I work with that was two weeks further along than me had her baby this week. Big downer. I’m only grateful that she had a girl. So… I’m working alone for the time being, which is actually a good thing because the insane busy keeps me adequately distracted so I don’t fall into a teary heap.

We’re in the middle of a heatwave so today my sister and her husband (aka the Darcy’s of Pemberly) have taken refuge from the heat in the air-conditioned comfort of our house (aka Netherfield, therefore making us Mr and Mrs Bingley). My brother and his wife (aka the Bennetts of Longbourn) are away for the weekend. The mercury hit 30C (86F) shortly after 7am and has now peaked at 40C (104F). Don’t get me wrong, I’m definitely not complaining about the weather. I actually really truly prefer these hot days over the cold but after most of a week of constant heat, it’s starting to wear a little thin.

And incase you hadn’t noticed, I’m currently enjoying a little Austen renaissance by rewatching Pride and Prejudice again.

Consumer goods for the vampirically obsessed

As previously mentioned, my Twilight loot arrived a couple of days ago and I’ve finally taken a photo.  Special uber-thanks to Cora who let me send the Cullen crest loot via her address because Amazon wouldn’t ship it outside of the US.  As much as I love Amazon, sometimes they can be a bunch of ass-hats.

I wore Rosalie’s pendant last night, it’s on a double-chain and is very large and heavy but totally awesome!  The summer swelter has taken a break and the temps have dropped down to 23C – just cool enough to rock the 3/4 sleeve baseball shirt.  Viva la vampire baseball!

And speaking of vampire baseball, I maybe created Miis for all of the Cullens on the Nintendo Wii. Playing baseball as Jasper has never been so much fun, though he’s actually not very good at it. Maybe my Wii is broken?  Heh.  I also maybe squealed a little when Mii-Edward and Mii-Emmett who were both fielding, ran for the same catch and missed.  Teehee!

Class of 3028

I’ve been very bored with my uni studies, mainly because I’ve completely lost interest in accounting which was my specialisation.  As a result, I’ve been dodging the accounting subjects and have completed the law specialisation (double-major).  The husband suggested that I speak to the course coordinator, which I did this morning.  After a quick chat he’s going to swap my accounting specialisation over to business management. I’ve already completed two of the business management subjects but I’d done them as free electives. This means I have two more free electives to complete and eight new specialisation subjects.  Sometimes, like right now, it feels as though I will be studying forever… but at least I’ll be doing subjects that are interesting to me!

Retail therapy

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

New category!  Retail therapy!  At last I can showcase all the awesome stuff that I buy — usually from the internet and almost always in the middle of the night!

I went to the mailbox today and was kinda surprised to find that everything I’ve ordered in the last couple of weeks had arrived at once. Heh.

Ouiji Board Necklace….  awesome!  It’s much much nicer than the photo shows, the colours are very vintage-esque and the resin coating gives it a nice shiny finish. Can you tell that it was a Dr Pepper lid in a previous lifetime???

Faux-Vintage Red Swarovski Drop Necklace – if I could possibly play favourites with any of my girlie trinkets, then this one would be right up there near the top of the list!

Fortune Teller’s Crystal Ball Necklace – apparently inspired by Alice Cullen from Twilight, though that’s not why I bought it. I love this necklace because it’s so unusual :)  I actually received this one in the mail before Christmas but I wanted to add it to the list anyway.

My Cullen vampire baseball shirt and tote bag also arrived.  Photos to follow!  Hmmm that was good therapy!

Sad bats
